StableStrides

Information provided by: Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments

Since 1981, StableStrides has provided horse-centered activities for individuals from the ages of two to eighty two who have adaptive needs for the purpose of promoting positive physical, behavioral, cognitive, emotional, and social development. We serve children, teens, adults, veterans, and service members with adaptive needs through Adaptive Riding, Mental Health Services, and Physical, Occupational & Speech Therapy. Adaptive Riding is an activity on horseback that positively contributes to the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social wellbeing of individuals with adaptive needs. It provides benefit in the areas of therapy, educational sport, recreation, and leisure. A disability does not have to limit a person’s ability to ride horses. In fact, experiencing the motion of a horse can be very therapeutic. Group, couple, family, and individual therapy sessions are available through the Mental Health Services program at StableStrides. There is no horseback riding included in our mental health therapy. All of the work with our horses in mental health therapy is on the ground rather than on horseback. This enhances the unique relationship built and nurtured between the client and their horse. Our licensed therapists, PATH Intl. Certified Equine Specialists in Mental Health and Learning, and exceptionally trained horses work together to provide a one-of-a-kind therapeutic experience in a trauma-informed setting.
