L&I announces $800,000 to help veterans get good jobs

Nov. 20—WILKES-BARRE — Department of Labor and Industry (L&I) Secretary Jennifer Berrier Tuesday said our veterans deserve our support, especially when it comes to succeeding after their service, and Pennsylvania employers need skilled workers to help them grow and thrive.

"The Veterans Employment Program will provide employment opportunities for our most honorable citizens and offer more comprehensive services to address barriers to employment and improve their employment outcomes," Berrier said.

L&I announced the availability of $800,000 in grant funding through the Veterans Employment Program (VEP) to connect veterans with job opportunities. Eligible workforce development entities across the commonwealth, particularly in locations with the highest need for these services, are encouraged to apply for the funding.

The $800,000 provided by PA Industry Partnership (IP) Heroes Path funds and reemployment funds will allow L&I to support four workforce development projects that will link veterans with employment and employment support that innovatively and creatively address barriers to employment facing our veterans. The VEP will operate from April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023.

The deadline to apply is Dec. 30, 2021. Eligible applicants include local workforce development boards, non-profit and non-governmental entities, community-based organizations, education and post-secondary organizations, labor organizations, business associations, and economic development entities.

Boback honors Pa. Wing ofCivil Air Patrol on 80th anniversary

Rep. Karen Boback, R-Harveys Lake, majority chairman of the House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee, Monday welcomed the Pennsylvania Wing of the Civil Air Patrol to the Capitol in Harrisburg to recognize its 80th anniversary.

"I was proud to be sworn in today as a Major in the legislative squadron of the Pennsylvania Wing of the Civil Air Patrol," Boback said. "It is such an honor to celebrate its 80th anniversary. As a strong arm of the United States Air Force, our Civil Air Patrol stands ready during times of need, assisting with search and rescues and working dutifully during the COVID-19 pandemic, in its longest sustain operation since World War II. The men and women of our Pennsylvania Wing of the Civil Air Patrol and their cadets are second to none, and we offer them best wishes for continued growth and success in years to come."
