Institute for Veterans and Military Families - Onward to Opportunity

Onward to Opportunity (O2O) helps active duty, selected reserve, veterans with an honorable discharge, and military spouses learn business, technology, and customer service skills to accomplish their personal and professional goals after military service. This program — from the Institute for Veterans and Military Families at Syracuse University is completely FREE through private funding and offer over 30 industry recognized certification. O2O combines industry-validated courses, strong partnerships, and comprehensive career coaching and employer relations services to match participants with civilian job opportunities. The O2O will fund one industry certification per participant, provided the individual completes the required coursework, practice exam requirements, and, if applicable, meets the certifying agency’s eligibility requirements. Connections to comprehensive career coaching services with Hire Heroes USA, leading to interviews with industry leaders committed to hiring veterans and military spouses. Participants receive non-credit certificates of completion from the Institute for Veterans and Military Families at Syracuse University upon course completion.

  • Eligibility Requirements:ACTIVE DUTY U.S. MILITARY Any active duty U.S. service member who will transition from military service to the civilian workforce in the next 6 months with an honorable discharge status. U.S. VETERANS Any U.S. veteran separated or retired from the military with an honorable discharge status. U.S. NATIONAL GUARD / RESERVISTS Any active member of the U.S. National Guard and Reserve that is currently in a part-time status. If the service member is on active duty status in the National Guard or Reserve, they are subject to the active duty eligibility. SPOUSES Spouses of any active duty U.S. military service member, U.S. veteran, and active member of the U.S. National Guard or Reserve.
