BRIEF: Delaware World War II veteran to tell of 25 missions over Nazi Europe

Dover Post - 6/8/2018

June 08--The Air Mobility Command Museum will host a "Chat with a Hero -- The Ray Firmani Story," from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, June 16, in the main hangar.

Firmani was a B-17 pilot with the 486th Heavy Bombardment Group of the "Mighty Eighth" Air Force during World War II.

Firmani, a 2017 inductee into the Delaware Aviation Hall of Fame, will be at the museum to share his life experiences, followed by a personal signing of his book, "Against All Odds."

A first-generation Italian-American who became the head of his household at an early age, Firmani enlisted in the US Army Air Forces at age 22, earning his wings and then flying 25 missions over Europe during the war.

"Against All Odds" is a true story of combat and heroism in World War II. Firmani tells of his life through his boyhood years in Wilmington, his military training, harrowing combat missions, and extraordinary heroism that resulted in his being awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters.

Parking and Firmani's presentation is free and open to the public.

The AMC Museum is on Delaware Route 9, just south of Dover AFB. Military identification is not required to visit the museum.
