Anderson Independent-Mail - 5/7/2017

May 07--Pickens County veterans will get to nominate their local advocate May 13.

According to county elections director Rodney Allen, all Pickens County residents who were honorably discharged from the military are eligible to vote "to nominate a candidate to the Pickens County Legislative Delegation for recommendation to the State Director of Veterans Affairs for appointment as Pickens County Veterans Affairs Officer."

The nominee who gets appointed will run the county's Veterans Affairs office for four years, starting in July. Election hours will be from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the following locations:

--Dacusville Middle School, 899 Thomas Mill Road in Easley;

--Gettys Middle School, 510 S. Pendleton St. in Easley;

--R.C. Edwards Middle School, 1157 Madden Bridge Road in Central;

--Liberty Elementary School, 251 N. Hillcrest St.; and

"Unlike other elections, voters have not been preassigned to any one particular voting location," according to Allen. "Voters may go to any one of the ... locations to cast their ballot. Voting is restricted to those Pickens County veterans honorably discharged from the armed forces of the United States."

Voters must live in Pickens County and provide proof of service, such as a DD-214, Veterans Administration ID card, membership cards for the American Legion or other such groups or proof of honorable service or general discharge under honorable conditions.
