Military veteran, 80, robbed doing lawn work in Macomb

Detroit Free Press (MI) - 8/1/2015

Aug. 01--An 80-year-old military veteran was robbed of his wallet while doing lawn work Thursday, St. Clair Shores police said today.

The man, who is believed to be a Korean War veteran, declined medical attention but may see a doctor for pain in his side as a result of the attack, Detective Sgt. Jay Cohoe said.

The victim was approached from behind, hit in the back and knocked to the ground, where the robber ripped his wallet from his rear pants pocket about 8:40 a.m. in the 28000 block of Larchmont, Cohoe said. No weapon was reportedly used in the assault.

The robber ran to a vehicle parked on Grant, police said.

A St. Clair Shores woman, 55, saw the assault and followed the robber in her vehicle. The robber went to Roseville, where he drove onto I-696 from Waldorf and the witness lost sight of him, Cohoe said.

Police said as a result of trying to flee the witness, the robber's vehicle may have sustained damage to the tires, wheels or front suspension.

The robber was described as a black male, 20 to 25 years old, 5-feet-10 to 6 feet tall, about 200 to 220 pounds and wearing a plaid shirt and khaki shorts, police said. He was in a gray, four-door 2005 to 2009 GMC Envoy, possibly a Denali with chrome rims.

Anyone with information on the suspect or the crime is asked to call police at 586-445-5300.
