BRIEF: Governor to honor veterans at The Villages on Monday

Orlando Sentinel (FL) - 3/30/2015

March 30--Governor Rick Scott, a military chaplain and representatives from the Department of Veterans Affairs will honor U.S. veterans at The Villages Monday morning.

At the ceremony, which will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Eisenhower Center at The Villages, Gov. Scott will present veterans with the "Governor's Veterans Service Award."

"As a Navy veteran, Governor Scott understands the importance of recognizing our heroes and does so every opportunity he gets," said Scott spokeswoman Jeri Bustamante.

Monday morning's ceremony is one of several that Scott has attended across the state since August 2013, Bustamante said.

Current and retired veterans, or those who were honorably discharged, are eligible for an award, provided they bring proof of service and a form, which is available at http://floridavets.org/gvsa/.

Bustamante said anyone is welcome to attend the event.

Later Monday Scott will be at the Jacksonville International Airport at 3 p.m. to see off the Florida Air National Guard's 125th Fighter Wing, which is being deployed to Europe.
