BRIEF: Niles group offers help to veterans, families

South Bend Tribune (IN) - 10/25/2014

Oct. 25--NILES -- Local veterans and their families are invited to the Niles outpost of Point Man Ministries, a Christian outreach meeting from 2 to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Salvation Army Community Center, at 424 N. 15th St.

The group's purposes include to heal the hidden scars of war that veterans carry, and to provide support for the spouse, family and friends through extensive use of "When War Comes Home," which is a structured program that will provide information and understanding of what actually happened to their loved one during their time in the service. The group also deals with how a veteran's spiritual, psychological, physiological trauma symptoms affect the whole family.

Family members will also learn how to create a healing place for the veteran as he or she struggles with his or her readjustment to a new normal, and also to create a safe, healthy environment for their children. A support network will help an individual to know when to seek professional help for his or her physical safety.
