Mayor Brown's Suits for Veterans clothing drive extended

Buffalo News - 11/20/2019

Nov. 20--How a candidate is dressed for a job interview makes a difference, especially for some men in the military, who are transitioning to civilian work and life.

That's where donating to Buffalo Mayor Byron W. Brown's Suits for Veterans clothing drive can help, said David Bellavia, the Western New Yorker who in June became the first living Iraq War veteran to receive the Medal of Honor.

"This could totally change someone's day. It could totally change someone's interview. It could really be enough of a push to really help them get a job or get a foothold," said Bellavia, who joined Brown Tuesday to announce the clothing drive had been extended.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily, until Friday, gently worn business suits will be collected in City Hall and given away to veterans Nov. 27 at the Belle Center, 104 Maryland St., from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Colvin Cleaners will clean and tailor the suits for free.

Also Tuesday, Bellavia received proclamations from Brown and the Common Council.
