Veterans Day services in Sanford

Nov. 5--Lee County will honor those who have served in the military this week with several scheduled events leading up to Veterans Day onMonday.

CCCC VeteransDay Service

Central Carolina Community College will host its annual Veterans Day Service at 10 a.m. today at the Siler City Center, 400 Progress Blvd., Siler City.

Jay Stobbs, a retired Army veteran from Chatham County, will lead the program. Speakers will include veterans Thomas Glendinning of the U.S. Marine Corps and Dennis Lewis and Andy Wilkie of the U.S. Army.

The Jordan-Matthews High School Band will perform under the direction of Justin Harper.

VeteransSpeaker Event

Hubert G. Edwards, a World War II Army veteran, will share his story from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday in room 113 of the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center, 1801 Nash St., Sanford.

Chatham County Salute to Veterans

A Veterans Day service will be held from 10 a.m.-noon Thursday at the Western Chatham Senior Center, 112 Village Lake Road, Siler City.

Veterans Appreciation Luncheon

A Veterans Appreciation Luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center, 1801 Nash St., Sanford. The 82nd Airborne All American Band and Chorus from Fort Bragg will perform jazz selections.

Veterans and current military personnel are invited at no charge. Veterans may bring one guest for $5, paid in advance at the Enrichment Center, 1615 S. Third St., Sanford. Space is limited and reservations are required. For more information, call the Enrichment Center at 919-776-0501 ext. 2201.

Lee County Library Salute to Veterans

The Lee County Library will host a Veterans Day service from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the main branch, 107 Hawkins Ave., Sanford. Local war veterans will share their stories. All ages are welcome.

Veterans at Ease

Sanford Yoga Center will host a class to benefit service members and veterans from 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the studio, 126 W. Main St., Sanford.

The class is open to people of all skill levels. Donations of any amount are encouraged. Proceeds will go to Warriors At Ease, a nonprofit that trains, certifies and positions yoga and meditation teachers to help service members, veterans and their families.

FAC of Sanford Veterans Day Service

First Apostolic Church of Sanford will host a Veterans Day service from 9:45-11:30 a.m. Sunday, 315 E. Weatherspoon St., Sanford.

Central Carolina Community College will host a Veterans Day ceremony from 9-9:45 a.m. in the courtyard of the main campus, 1105 Kelly Drive, Sanford. For more information, email vub@cccc.edu or call 919-718-7539.

Broadway Veterans Day Service

A Veterans Day Service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the North Carolina Veterans Memorial Park, 210 S. Main St., Broadway.

The guest speaker will be retired Army Lt. Col. Frank Brown. This program will be sponsored by the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, Sanford.
