Frostburg Legion looking for WW2 veterans to honor in parade

Cumberland Times-News - 10/21/2019

Oct. 21--FROSTBURG -- The 16th annual Storybook Holiday, an event aimed at encouraging children to read and get into Christmas holiday cheer, is set for Dec. 7.

This year, 78 years after America's initial involvement in World War II, the Frostburg Farraday Post 24 American Legion wants to honor veterans of the war by having them participate in the parade, an annual part of the event.

"One of the things we talked about at the legion was how do we do this safely," said Mike Wade, parade coordinator.

Veterans who wish to participate will be allowed to use their family car in the parade, with members of their family being allowed to drive and ride in the car with them if they so choose. Families can decorate the car how they like, but the Legion asks that there be a sign -- 2 feet by 2 feet or big enough to read -- that says who the veteran is and what service they were in.

Veterans and their families who wish to participate in the parade are to contact Wade at 301-876-3123 for more information and to receive a participation form. Filled out forms can be mailed to the Frostburg American Legion at 27 W. Main St., Frostburg, MD 21532.

The last day to have participation forms mailed in by is Nov. 27.

"We want it to be a fun day," said Wade. "This might be the last opportunity we as a community can honor these guys."

Lineup for the parade will begin at 9 a.m. and the parade starts at 10 a.m.
