Community Clergy Training Program

Network of Care for Service Members, Veterans & Their Families

8:00am

Categories:

Many Veterans and their family members seek help for their problems from clergy because they feel the faith community can provide anonymity, confidentiality and a stigma-free environment. Yet clergy members sometimes have limited knowledge about readjustment difficulties and the unique health issues such as post-traumatic stress or depression common to returning warriors.

This Community Training Partner Initiative offers critical resource to educate and support the faith community as you support our Veterans and their family members.

DoD Warrior Games

Network of Care for Service Members, Veterans & Their Families

8:00am

Categories:

The 2018 Department of Defense (DoD) Warrior Games will be held June 2-9 at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. Approximately 265 wounded, ill and injured service members and veterans representing teams from the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) will participate in the competition.

Teams include active-duty service members and veterans with upper-body, lower-body, and spinal cord injuries; traumatic brain injuries; visual impairment; serious illnesses; and post-traumatic stress. They will go head-to-head in archery, cycling, shooting, sitting volleyball, swimming, track and field, wheelchair basketball and three new sports debuting this year: indoor rowing, powerlifting, and time trial cycling.

The Warrior Games were established in 2010 as a way to enhance the recovery and rehabilitation of wounded warriors and to expose them to adaptive sports. Sponsored by the U.S. Olympic Committee in Colorado Springs, Colo., the inaugural Warrior Games hosted approximately 200 wounded, ill and injured service members. During the following years, the Warrior Games expanded in size and scope.

This is the fourth consecutive year the DoD will lead the operational planning and coordination of the event; the U.S. Air Force will host this year?s event. https://dodwarriorgames.com/

your skills, values or interest? If so, this seminar is designed for you and the unique life of the Military Spouse. Though many consider the accomplishments of the military spouse to extraordinary, the military spouse considers it all to be ?routine?. While it is human nature to be humble about your abilities and
achievements, when you are in the job search mode you need to make as many people as possible aware of your positive qualities.

Equine Assisted Therapy Volunteer Orientation

Network of Care for Service Members, Veterans & Their Families

9:00am

Categories:

Pikes Peak Therapeutic Riding Center is currently seeking volunteers to assist with our Equine Assisted Therapy Classes offered at the Latigo Equestrian Complex near Black Forrest. We hold classes Monday - Saturday and work with active duty service members, veterans, and civilians.

You do not need to be horse savvy to volunteer at PPTRC! You just need the desire to help an amazing group of people with special needs! All volunteers 14+ are welcome.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AT PPTRC:

SIDE WALKERS: Responsible for the safety of the rider. Sidewalkers help get horses ready for class and assist their rider with helmeting and mounting. Sidewalkers support their rider as he or she gets to know and care for the horse.

HORSE LEADERS: Responsible for the horse?s safety and control at all times. Horse Leaders reinforce the rider?s signals to the horse and maintain proper distance from other horses in the class while walking, changing directions, and passing. This role requires some prior horse handling experience. Training opportunities are offered often!

BENEFITS OF VOLUNTEERING AT PPTRC:

A chance to change lives through the amazing attributes of the horse
Working with the incredible animals that make up the PPTRC herd
Reduced fee riding lessons
Looks great on resumes and college applications

HOW TO APPLY:

Visit www.pptrc.org/volunteer/ or email our Volunteer Coordinator at mersman@pptrc.org
