The Jeanne Taylor Parkinson?s Support Group Annual Symposium will be held on June 3 at the First United Methodist Church, 420 N. Nevada Avenue. The symposium will begin at 8:00 a.m. with continental breakfast, followed by a series of talks by speakers on a variety of topics of interest to those with Parkinson?s and their caregivers. Lunch will be provided. The symposium will end at approximately 1:40 p.m. Donation is $6.00 at pre-registration or $7.50 at the door. Call 719-495-1853 to pre-register. Colorado's State Unit on Aging, HCPF, SHIP, AAA, the SEP Agencies, and 211 network are collaborating to create Adult Resources for Care and Help(ARCH)resource centers..The program's main goal is to streamline access to information and services that allow people to remain as independent as possible. ARCH is available to people age 60 and over or age 18 and over with a disability that need information about long-term support services options or assistance accessing those options.

Free Chronic Pain Class Offered at AgeWell Associates in May

A free class to help people deal with the challenges of living with chronic pain will be held on Tuesdays from May 16-June 20 from 9:30 a.m.-noon at AgeWell Medical Associates, 2350 International Circle, Colorado Springs, CO 80910. The free six-week class is open to the community.

Classes are highly participative, where mutual support and success build the participants? confidence in their ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives. Chronic Pain Self-Management is a self-management program developed at Stanford University.

Anyone dealing with ongoing pain is encouraged to participate. Friends and family are also encouraged to attend. Classes are sponsored by COAW, a nonprofit organization that provides health and wellness leader trainings, community health classes and falls prevention screenings throughout Colorado to assist individuals and communities in achieving better health.

The class meets once per week for six weeks. Each session is 2 hours. Topics covered assist with overall health and well-being including:
?Techniques to deal with fatigue, frustration, isolation and poor sleep
?Setting weekly goals
?Exercise tips for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility and endurance
?Managing medications
?Communicating effectively with family, friends and health professionals
?Managing activity and rest levels
?Nutrition
?How to evaluate new treatments

Free Community Health Class Offered in Divide Starting May 15

A free six-week class, Healthier Living Colorado?, designed to help people deal with the challenges of living with an ongoing health condition such as heart disease, a lung condition, diabetes or arthritis will be held on Mondays from May 15-June 26 at 1-3:30 p.m. at the Peak Vista Community Health Center-Divide, 34 Hybrook Road S., Divide, CO 80814.

Healthier Living Colorado? is the chronic disease self-management program developed at Stanford University. Whatever the diagnosis, this class teaches and supports participants in making better choices and practicing self-management. Classes are sponsored by COAW, the Consortium for Older Adult Wellness. COAW offers health self-management and falls prevention classes throughout Colorado.
